Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational and Charitable Trust were started by our Founder Chancellor Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram in the year 1981 to serve the needy in the society. The Trust established the very first medical college in Pondicherry, Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital in the year 2000. Located in NH Pondicherry – Cuddalore Road, a national highway, the self-contained and serene campus is spread over 44 acres of lush green lands.
Initially the Institution was affiliated to Pondicherry University subsequently it came under the ambit of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation Deemed to be University, in the year 2004. The Institution offers Post Graduate courses in 13 disciplines and Ph.D. programs across various specialities and interdisciplinary areas. The first batches of 100 students were admitted for 2000-2001 sessions, and every year thereafter. At present, the annual intake is 150 MBBS and 74 Post Graduate students, and over 750 UG and POST GRADUATE Students are pursuing their studies at AVMCH.
Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital offers Patient care, Diagnostic, Rehabilitative, Preventive, Pharmacy services. With its fully equipped ICCU, ICU; PICU, NICU and high dependency areas, modular operation theatres equipped with contemporary anaesthesia equipment the broad and Super speciality departments of Cardiology, Urology, Medical Gastroenterology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery and Nephrology, offer state of tertiary care services to the Union Territory of Pondicherry and nearby districts from Tamilnadu. A variety of Government and third party Insurance schemes are also functional in the system.
The hospital boasts of a well-designed, efficient Dialysis Unit. Laparoscopy equipment for general and gynaecological surgery, ESWL, lithotripsy, PUVA chamber and laser instruments for cosmetic surgery are available for quality patientcare services. MEDICAL
Admission to Medical (UG & PG) programs are made through online counseling process conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Govt. of India, and New Delhi on the basis of marks obtained in the NEET Examination.
Age limit for UG program
Candidate should have completed the age of 17 years on or before the first day of July of academic year in which the candidate is seeking admission.
MBBS
The minimum period of training for this degree shall be 51/2 yrs inclusive of 1year of internship.
Eligibility for PG Courses
The candidate must possess recognized MBBS degree and should have obtained permanent Registration as medical practitioners with the Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils.
In the case of foreign nationals holding non-schedule foreign medical qualifications, they must have temporary Registration (issued by Medical Council of India) for the duration of their postgraduate Training restricted to the medical college / institution to which they are admitted for the time being for post graduate studies and for no other purpose.
